This past year saw continued disruptions and uncertainties as we navigated an ongoing pandemic impacting millions of people across the world. At the same time, we continued to build on the momentum of our 2020 merger, which brought two incredible people companies together. Through it all, Trace3 remained committed to serving our people, customers, and communities. Because we know doing the right thing for people will always be the right thing to do.

Part of that commitment includes the expansion of our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, which play a critical role in what we do every day and will help shape our long-term success as a global company. We are establishing and bolstering our ESG program across the organization, with significant investment and focus on diversity, ethics, compliance, and philanthropic projects.

On-site greenery: We partner with a nursery company that provides on-site support for living walls and greenery throughout our Lowell co-headquarters.

Optimized paper use and discard programs: We intentionally selected secure shredding services that recycle collected materials into new paper products.

Eco-conscious office supplies: By setting up preferred (and discounted) green-based options via our company accounts, we naturally promote green purchasing habits.

Recycling: Trace3 takes pride in ensuring that we continue to enhance our active environmental programs that include e-cycling, battery recycling, and overall recycling of paper, plastic, and cans.

Trace3 has a shared responsibility for protecting the environment and minimizing the impact of our daily decisions. While we have always encouraged sustainability here at Trace3, our new written Environmental Policy showcases our dedication and actions to reduce our environmental impact.

Sustainability

EcoVadis has grown to become the world’s largest and most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, and the world’s economy looks to CDP as the gold standard of environmental reporting, so Trace3 is incredibly proud to participate in both questionnaires on an annual basis. We continue to participate in the K-Cycle K-Cup Pod Recycling Program and utilize Organic and Recycling Waste Collection Services. As well, we partner with Comprenew and other e-waste pick-up services to refurbish and reuse retired electronic devices and annually participate in local Earth Day initiatives. Trace3 also communicates our progress towards our sustainable development goals company-wide via our quarterly Business Services & Sustainability newsletter.

In 2023, Trace3 was awarded a Bronze medal in recognition of sustainability achievement from the EcoVadis Sustainability Ratings Assessment and achieved a Sustainability Certificate from Switch for using 100% Renewable Energy within the Switch ecosystem.

Office-Based Footprint

To assist with reporting on our GHG emissions, the utilization of the Watchwire sustainability and energy management tool aids in utility tracking at our facilities across the country. For all our Trace3 facilities, we’ve historically gravitated towards LEED or Energy Star certified buildings whenever possible. We continue to work directly with the landlords of these buildings and have them provide us with proof of these certifications and their documented environmental programs.

To further support our sustainability goals, in addition to tracking electric, gas and water utilities through Watchwire as we have since it’s implementation, this year we will be adding waste tracking for any facilities where this is an option. This would include tracking the weight of used K-Cups through the Keurig K-Cycle program, e-waste pick-ups, and cardboard recycling.

We, as an organization, are fully cognizant of both our imprint on the world and our opportunity toward its environmental sustainability. Thus, we set forth the following goals to make a marked difference in this regard:

  1. Reduce our Scope 1 (Direct - company facilities and vehicles) & 2 (Indirect - purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling) emissions by 2.5% by 2033 and track this goal within the Watchwire sustainability and energy management platform. In addition to this internal reduction goal, we also committed to SBTi as of 2023. The Science Based Targets initiative is a corporate climate action organization that enables companies worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. Trace3 can be found on their list of committed companies at sciencebasedtargets.org.
  2. Focus on our employees' awareness of environmental risks, including Scope 3 emissions, and how everyone can contribute to sustainability at Trace3. We will develop a program within the next few years which will include guidelines for recycling, increased use of non-disposable dishware, reduction of waste, use of energy efficient settings with electronic devices, and ways to limit work-related travel. This program will be distributed to all existing Trace3 employees, as well as introduced in any new hire trainings.
